Here is a demo of a bug in Apple’s accessibiltiy tool – VoiceOver. If it stumbles upon an element — typically a paragraph — where the CSS :first-letter{} selector has been used, then it goes into spades and read the element for you twice. That is: Two times.
Pretty annoying, I should think, for VO users.
VoiceOver seems lika very fine tool. As a sighted user that only uses screenreaders in order to test how they handly Web pages, I find VoiceOver much easier to listen to than Jaws and NVDA. Especially Jaws is so dull — in particular together with Internet Explorer (yes, Firefox sounds better) — that I very easy loose my concentration.
That’s the postive side. VoiceOver is very good at what it is good at. And very delicate to listen to.
But at the same time, it has these weird glitches. There is enough repetitive text if not the screenreader shall make it worse..
